E. coli Testing Results for June 25, 2025

Water levels at all the sites we tested have decreased since last week

The water levels at all the sites we tested have decreased since last week, additionally, at many of the sites the water was less turbid/muddy, improving the water’s clarity. In the midst of this recent heatwave the River is very inviting, before heading to the River make sure to check out Friends of the Shenandoah River’s most current E. coli testing results.

The results of the water samples collected yesterday, Wednesday, June 25, show that 2 out of 12 testing sites had E. coli levels above the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) recommended Beach Action Value (BAV) of 235 CFU per 100mL of sample.

The two sites with elevated E. coli levels were Meems Bottom Covered Bridge, 235.9 MPN CFU per 100mL, and Hawksbill Creek, 435.2 MPN CFU per 100mL

Samples collected on Wednesday, June 25, show that 2 out of 12 testing sites had E. coli concentrations exceeding the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) recommended Beach Action Value (BAV) of 235 CFU per 100 mL of sample:

  • Meems Bottom Covered Bridge: 235.9 MPN CFU/100 mL
  • Hawksbill Creek: 435.2 MPN CFU/100 mL
