The Friends of the Shenandoah River maintains, operates, and funds an accredited water quality testing lab that meets the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality’s Level III criteria.
In 1989, with the support and dedication of a group of concern citizens the Friends of the Shenandoah River (FOSR) launched a water quality monitoring program. Years later, what started as a make-shift water-quality testing lab in a basement has grown into a professional accredited science driven water-quality testing laboratory. The FOSR manages and houses the long-term database that contains the data collected by our water quality monitoring programs and other monitoring projects measuring water quality in the Shenandoah River watershed and others in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The value of this dataset increases with the length of the record and is a tool crucial to understanding and resolving critical water quality issues plaguing the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
The FOSR provides unrestricted access to our water-quality data. We ask that acknowledgment and credit is given when using and referring to these data. In order to continue to provide you with these data we hope that you will support us with a donation.
