This is the first time, out of 17 weekly E. coli testing events, that the E. coli level at site FPHCTL, Hawksbill Creek at the Pocket Park downstream of Greenway pedestrian bridge adjacent to Virginia Avenue (Rt. 340) in the Town of Luray, Page County VA, was less than 235 CFUs per 100mL of sample, with an E. coli reading of 185.0 CFUs.
Below is the link to the E. coli results for the water samples collected on Monday September 09, 2024, as part of the Friends of the Shenandoah River (FOSR) Summer E. coli Testing Program.
FOSR provides, as a guideline, the US Environmental Protection Agency recommended precautionary “do not exceed” freshwater Beach Action Value (BAV) of 235 CFU of E. coli bacteria per 100mL of water sample for early alert to for those planning on recreating in natural freshwaters, including families with children.
