Planning to hit the river to cool off from the summer heat? 🌡️ Before you pack up the family, inflate the tubes, grab your fishing gear 🎣, and load up the kayaks, take a look at the Friends of the Shenandoah River (FOSR) latest E. coli data to help you make the best choices for your day on the water.

All of our monitored River locations tested below the EPA’s recommended threshold of 235 CFU per 100 mL of water for primary body-contact recreation! However, one of our tributary monitoring sites did exceed the threshold:

⚠️ 📍Hawksbill Creek (Page County, VA) — Luray-Hawksbill Greenway Pocket Park 🌳 in Luray – E. coli Level: 517.2 CFU/100 mL 📈

💡 Why this matters: Bacteria spikes can happen quickly and unpredictably, especially during hot summer weather or following localized rainfall. 🌦️ Regularly checking site-specific data allows you to make informed decisions before you and your loved ones dive in, splash around, float down the river in your tubes, or paddle down our beautiful rivers and streams.
