2025.08.06 Hawksbill Creek, Luray-Hawksbill Greenway Pocket Park downstream of pedestrian bridge, Page County VA

In addition to lower water levels, mostly clearer conditions, and cooler temperatures this week, we observed a significant change in the E. coli level at our Hawksbill Creek site near the Luray-Hawksbill Greenway Pocket Park.

For the first time in 12 weekly testing rotations since May 2025, the E. coli level at this location dropped below the EPA’s recommended threshold of 235 CFUs per 100mL sample. This week’s reading was 218.7 MPN CFUs/100mL.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our weekly summer E. coli testing across our sites.  KNOW BEFORE YOU GO! Explore our new interactive map and QR codes for every monitoring site at the button links below.
